Her most important tool is VERA herself, as Jack can throw her to different places and teleport to her, destroy enemies, and bypass certain obstacles like laser walls. There are also small dimensional drives scattered across each level that will extend the time by 5 seconds for every four that are collected, which can often make the difference between success and failure. First and foremost, Jack is agile and has a sword which lets her quickly dispatch robotic enemies, which are more of an obstacle than they are a threat. In gameplay, each stage has a 30 second timer in which to complete it and Jack has plenty of tools to help her do just that. A clear choice was made to do one thing very well, and while this makes Aeon Drive feel complete and uncomplicated, necessary sacrifices were made. But the speedrunning niche may only appeal to a small population. There are entire YouTube channels dedicated to showing off how fast players can complete levels, and the drive to uncover the best strategy and perfect it definitely exists within some. The trend of speed-running games has persisted in the online gaming content landscape for years. Not only are global online leaderboards used, but Aeon Drive is specifically designed for the capability to work with popular gaming chat app Discord, which many use to play games with friends, as well as with Twitch, a popular streaming platform for players from all over the world to stream their play sessions live.įor some, this sounds like a dream. The result is an extremely fast-paced experience that's demanding and unforgiving.
